2014-15 College Football Bowl Schedule & Results

The College Football Playoff committee made their final postseason choices known early Sunday afternoon. The biggest surprise was TCU falling out of the playoff picture despite entering the weekend No. 3 in the rankings. Ohio State won the Big Ten title game and passed by both TCU and Baylor to grab the No. 4 spot behind No. 1 Alabama, No. 2 Oregon and No. 3 Florida State.

Last week the Carnahan Chronicles College Football Rankings moved TCU to No. 4, behind FSU, Alabama and Oregon and ahead of Baylor for the first time due to injury concerns at quarterback for both the Bears and Buckeyes. I always figured Ohio State had a great chance to gain a postseason spot if they were able to win their conference, and they did so in a major way against Wisconsin on Saturday.

Below is the bowl schedule for the remainder of the 2014-15 season with game locations included in italics. All scores will be updated upon conclusion of games.

Carnahan Chronicles College Football Rankings (Week 13)

Not much has changed from a week ago in the Carnahan Chronicles College Football Rankings. FSU is still the only unbeaten from a power conference at this point in the season. The other unbeaten team barely hung on to win Saturday as Conference USA’s Marshall improved to 11-0 with a 23-18 win over UAB. Maybe one day we’ll see a team such as this get a shot at making the playoffs. Colorado State (10-1) of the Mountain West is the last remaining team left with one loss not listed below after winning 58-20 over New Mexico behind running back Dee Hart, an Alabama transfer. Would be interested in seeing Hart get a chance to run against Bama at the end of the season.

Here’s the rankings for this week:

#1 (1) Florida State (11-0) – Won 20-17 vs Boston College
#2 (2) Alabama (10-1) – Won 48-14 vs Western Carolina
#3 (3) Oregon (10-1) – Won 44-10 vs Colorado
#4 (4) Baylor (9-1) – Won 49-28 vs Oklahoma State
#5 (5) Ohio State (10-1) – Won 42-27 vs Indiana
#6 (6) TCU (9-1) – Did not play
#7 (7) Mississippi State (10-1) – Won 51-0 vs Vanderbilt
#8 (10) UCLA (9-2) – Won 38-20 vs No. 19 USC
#9 (–) Georgia (9-2) – Won 55-9 vs Charleston Southern
#10 (9) Wisconsin (9-2) – Won 26-24 at Iowa

NCAA March Madness Offers Rare Stroke of Luck

I’m historically mediocre at filling out March Madness brackets. But I do it ever year, just as I’ve become programed to do over the past three decades. For most sports fans it adds a little more flare to the wild and unpredictable opening rounds of the tournament.

This time I waited until the last minute to fill one out. I wasn’t tempted to wager a single penny on it either, for the first time in years. And then I started to wonder what could have been after watching as my Final Four, and seven of my Elite Eight selections, remained intact entering Thursday and Friday’s Sweet 16.
